A book of art and words, this work has the lightness of time passing like a conversation, and the weight of a lost memory, which is found again. That of Morocco where Jews and Muslims were side by side, in life and in art. 120 collector's items in four-colour process. Through their singular conversation, two collectors trace a path towards the memory of Morocco, broken among Jews and Muslims alike. It still exists, intact, in these objects fashioned with love, and collected today in the same spirit. Diversity, tradition, sharing, segregation and everything that touches human nature are expressed in this craft, which is particularly rich and creative. Khalid El Gharib and Paul Dahan, one Muslim, the other Jewish, both born in Fez twenty years apart, invite us to share the adventure of their collections. The first, an antique dealer in Marrakech, and the second, founder of a museum, the Center for Judeo-Moroccan Culture, in Brussels, have, unwittingly, collected a common memory, and created their own. They just deliver it to us. By sharing the best of their collections, they offer us the fruit of thousands of kilometers traveled, in an individual approach that has crossed the general interest. Far from speeches and declarations of good intentions, they made this path towards the other, by privileging what they had in common, without denying their difference. It is up to us to savor its beauty: textiles, ceramics, jewellery, paintings and drawings. Transmitting what is received while focusing as much on the perpetuation of the spirit as on the safeguarding of works, such is the moving message of this book.
